The project was implemented for Ionisos Ibérica, a company that specialises in the use of high-energy electrons to sterilise single-use medical products, amongst other activities. Sterilisation is performed by a stream of electrons generated using a particle accelerator. Certain products need to be irradiated on both sides, and therefore the conveyor includes turning equipment.
Ionisos wanted to double its production in 2019, but the tray turner had become a bottleneck on account of its lentitude. Actemium produced a new turner that operates in half the time, enabling production to be increased by 100%, and which also includes an error diagnosis system that was not present on the previous model and which enables corrective maintenance times to be kept to a minimum.
The project budget totalled €60,000 and is expected to start operating in January 2019. The installation includes a pallet cell and software that interconnects the different plant systems: accelerator, turner, pallet robot and corporate software. Actemium has worked with the Ionisos plant in Tarancón, Cuenca for 8 years, where it has performed a range of engineering works.
